Description1 year Veterinary assistant & animal care internship (paid) and/or part time position (Saturdays and Wednesdays PM after training): Ideal paid internship and/or part time position for college students currently enrolled in pre-vet/ pre-med/ pre-nursing/ animal care program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to animal care (hospital general maintenance, animal handling); assisting the veterinarian and groomers with animals handling and restraint; performing basic clinical laboratory work; assisting the manager with customer service, handling client phone calls, business, accounting and other office duties and computer data entry of various clinical reports. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain a good experience in a medical field while in school. Receptionist & Animal care limited term/duration veterinary assistant internship: Paid part time position:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to animal care (hospital general maintenance, animal handling); assisting the veterinarian with animals; performing basic clinical laboratory work; assisting the manager with customer service, handling client phone calls, business, accounting and other office duties. The veterinary assistant is required to be able to safely restrain animals for grooming, clinical procedure and during appointments.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities with clinical, laboratory work, accounting and business aspect of a veterinary practice: Willing to learn the basics of how a small animal hospital runs (administratively and clinically).
Computer / data entry responsibilities: Learning and becoming proficient at using one of the largest clinical computer software (AVIMARK) in the veterinary industry. Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record. Business and accounting responsibilities: Maintain accounting and receivable books. Maintain accurate drugs and supplies inventory within the hospital.
Customer Services responsibilities: Assisting the manager with customer service and handling client phone calls. Follow up on clinical cases and scheduling appointments. Etc..
Responsibilities with clinical aspect of a veterinary practice: Becoming familiar and understanding clinical cases work up (referred or in house) and entering clinical histories and all communications in computerized records. Communicating with other veterinary hospitals staff and communicating with owners on various cases. Performing clinical laboratory work (PCV, Chemistries, QBCs, Snap, fecal floatations, STAT6 blood work, urinalysis, assisting in the taking and processing radiographs etc...) Assisting the veterinarian, other technicians and groomer with clinical and non clinical cases ( animal handling, animal restraint and general maintenance of hospital).
Assist the veterinarians with clinical procedures. Restraining animals safely during appointments, clinical work up and grooming in order to prevent injuries to self as well as other veterinary staff is part of the position. Performing assistant’s level clinical duties such as monitoring animals that are recovering, administrating oral medication when requested.. This position description does not necessarily cover every task or duty that might be assigned. There may be additional responsibilities assigned as necessary. This part time position is an excellent opportunity to gain a good administrative and clinical experience. Evening hours, Wednesdays and Saturdays are required.
RequirementsEmployees ( including interns) are required to be on time for their shift and have a perfect attendance policy.
This position is an internship (starting Part-Time position) and pays $8 per hour.
