The Garden State Discovery Museum is seeking energetic, flexible and creative Art Studio Interns to be at the front line for helping children of all ages express their creativity! This includes engaging families, leading Art Parties, and creating a wonderful environment for children to use their imagination. Candidates must be enrolled in a local college with concentrations in art related programs, have experience with children, and enjoy working in a fun-loving environment. Job Title: Art Studio Intern
Position reports to: Director, Director of Education and Programs, and Floor Manager
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual assigned to this position. They are not intended as an exhaustive list of all the responsibilities, duties and skills required of this job. It is our expectation that each employee will offer his or her services to the extent that is necessary and reasonable to ensure the continued success of our Museum.
The Art Studio Intern will assist with the maintenance of the Art Studio, help lead art classes and art parties. They will reflect the energetic and interactive nature of the Museum by engaging visitors and enhancing their experience at the Museum. The Art Studio Intern will also assist with the planning, promotion and execution of the Museum mission.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and Duties:
1. As front line of customer service, interact with families in a positive and engaging way.
2. The Art Studio Intern is responsible for identifying customer problems and solving them independently.
3. Hosting birthday parties while managing large groups of children and adults and representing the Museum in a positive manner.
4. Cleaning and maintaining of the Art Studio.
5. Lead art classes for Museum visitors using a variety of mediums.
6. Hourly observations of the condition of the Art Studio.
7. Maintaining cleanliness of the Art Studio at all times.
8. Maintaining and stocking supplies.
9. Other duties assigned by the Floor Manager and Museum Director.
Candidates must be comfortable, confident and energetic when speaking in front of large groups of children and adults while leading art classes and parties. The candidate must have a flexible schedule and weekend availability is a must. Education and/or art experience is required. Additionally, the candidate must be enrolled in an art program and or art education program. This Internship must be used for college credits. The candidate must be independent and willing to take charge and create new projects for the children to create. The Art Studio Intern must understand the everyday responsibilities (listed below) that must be completed, when not involved with specific activities related to the Art Studio.
