DescriptionAre you interested in fashion, textiles, or sewing? Are you new to the museum world and want hands on experience? Then Steppingstone Farm Museum is the place for you! Steppingstone preserves and interprets the rural heritage of Harford County. The museum is home to a small but vibrant textile collection of objects from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Interns shall work with the Curator in the analyzing, cleaning, stabilization, and rehousing the collection. Interns shall assist with special events and other duties as needed. Interns shall focus on a project that will give them significant experience in the workplace. This is an unpaid internship. Interns shall be expected to work some weekends as necessary.
ResponsibilitiesInterns will commit to two to three days per week at the museum. Some weekend work is required. Interns are expected to present a project of their choosing to the Curator and Board of Directors at the conclusion of the internship.
RequirementsInterns may be students in an undergraduate program, those that have recently graduated from an undergraduate program, or those that are current graduate students, or those who have recently graduated from a graduate program. Applicants may have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Applicants should have an interest in historic sewing techniques, fashion, or museum studies. Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills are preferred.
