DescriptionBrooklyn Center for the Arts is a newly founded program (October, 2015) that seeks to provide children and adults with quality education in dance, vocal, drama and instrumental music.
We are always looking for talented individuals to join our administrative and instructional team, but the purpose of this email is to recruit for the teaching and counselor positions for our Performing Arts summer camp.
Positions are available in all musical areas: beginner band instruction (trumpet, saxophone, clarinet and trombone) and beginner keyboard instruction, as well guitar and string instruments (acoustic and electric). *We also have positions for teaching assistants.*
ResponsibilitiesFosters a safe and nurturing learning environment

Continuously builds professional knowledge
Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
Develops and maintains lesson plans
Establishes an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
Prepares lesson plans for substitutes
Builds strong relationships with students and parents
Identifies student's areas for improvement and is able to work with the student and family and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
Demonstrates support and knowledge of school's goals and mission.
RequirementsMusic Experience, Education & Skills Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or similar experience
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Experience instructing music students of varying ages and skill levels
Select adventurous repertoire, and organize culminating performances
Regular attendance, dependability and punctuality is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Candidates will be selected based on expertise in one or all of the following areas:
Teach knowledge and skills associated with vocal and/or instrumental music, as well as a general understanding of music appreciation and music harmony.
Teach knowledge and skills in the field of music, which may include general, instrumental, or choral music to students.
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music.
Instruct students in the proper care and use of instruments and equipment.
Plan a balanced music program and organize class time so preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted class time.
Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
Direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.
Cooperate with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions.
Provide individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Encourage pupils to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
