DescriptionReports To: South County Coast Keeper
Dates: This internship is offered year-round.
The position will serve as an assistant to the South County Coast Keeper and the Westerly Office. The South Coast Center intern will assist with events in the Westerly area, administrative duties, light aquaria work, public programming, and welcoming visitors. This internship will provide an inside look at what it’s like to work for a non-profit in a variety of capacities. Interns must be available for a minimum of two days a week. Days available are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm.

ResponsibilitiesAssist in public outreach events in the South County area
Assist with administrative tasks while the office is open
Assist with any programming taking place at the office
Assist with data entry, filing, research, writing and other projects as needed
Maintain and clean aquarium tanks
Care and support for aquarium exhibits and animals
Water quality testing on exhibit tanks
Maintenance of tanks and filters
RequirementsApplicants must be enrolled in an accredited college/university during the term of your internship. Graduate students, recent college graduates and individuals looking to fill an employment gap are also eligible for internship opportunities. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher out of 4.0. Must have driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must undergo a criminal background check.
Experience and background in some aspect of non-profit management is preferred.
Work well in a high-energy, fast paced environment
Willing to do some manual labor, lifting, and get dirty
Strong communication and writing skills
Must have ability to occasionally work independently and have initiative
A positive attitude and ability to work in a team environment
Comfortable speaking to groups and making contact with the general public on Save The Bay’s behalf
General office skills including proficiency with computers and the Internet (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Explorer)
Maintain professional demeanor on the telephone and while working with the public
