ACLU of Texas
DescriptionThe American Civil Liberties Union of Texas is the state’s preeminent civil rights organization, at the forefront in Texas since 1938. The 11th largest ACLU affiliate in the United States, the ACLU of Texas works in the courts, the legislature and through public education to protect civil rights and individual liberty.
The ACLU of Texas (Houston Office) is looking for preferably a full time or part time volunteer/intern to work our receptionist desk. Some of the duties would be answering heavy phone lines and directing them to the appropriate departments/persons. Also there will be some administrative/clerical work such as copies, faxes, light typing and assisting during our mass mailings. This volunteer/intern opportunity would be perfect for someone who wants to build their resume or transition into a administrative/clerical position.
ResponsibilitiesHeavy Phone Lines - There will be times where we have a mass mailing or press release that we know is going to gain the ACLU alot of attention, therefore we will have other media request and we would like to have a live person versus an automated sytem available.
Light Filing, Copying, and Typing
Mass Mailings - About 3-4 times a year we have events where we send out anywhere from 300 to 2500 pieces of mail. When these events happen we like to recruit as many volunteers as possible because when it is an invitation we prefer that they be hand written and when it's a mass mailing we need as many hands as possible so that would be a duty that our intern/volunteer would be included in.
