Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty
Description"The pyramids were built by interns." Unknown (but probably true)
Amnesty International PA encourages undergraduate and graduate students to apply for an internship position. We require a commitment of at least four hours per week for 12 weeks is required. Those who are able to offer more hours will be given preference. Internships of two semesters are available as well. Summer interns usually work at least eight hours per week.
This internship focuses on abolition of the death penalty in Pennsylvania and, to a lesser extent, abolition throughout the United States. We work in collaboration with other abolitionist groups and are members of the Pennsylvania Moratorium Coalition convened by Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty.
Internship opportunities are available throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. For those outside of Central PA, the intern will meet with the supervisor online.
Interns play a key role in our organization and are given responsibility accordingly, working on very substantial projects and work products. Internships are unpaid, but we are happy to assist with supervision for those seeking academic credit. This is a great opportunity for hands-on, practical experience and for interacting with organizations that are working on human rights issues. Specific skill sets we always need are:
Writing, Public Speaking/Education, Computer Fluency, Marketing/Publicity, Social media, web site design and updating, database design and maintenance, recruiting and research.
If you can offer one or more of the above, please contact us. Work will be performed here in York and from your home. There will also be short trips to see elected officials and to attend hearings and court case.
