DescriptionSanctuary One is a 55-acre care farm in Southern Oregon. We help people of all ages experience nature's power to heal by volunteering on a real working farm; we provide educational tours that open people's hearts and minds; we invite schools and youth-serving nonprofit groups to visit the farm for some fresh air, exercise, and hands-on service-learning; we help teenagers who are in legal trouble learn how to make better choices; we mentor interns who want to become the next generation of care farmers; we promote the ethics of sustainable living; and we provide a safe, loving home to rescued farm animals and house pets.
ResponsibilitiesInterns are expected to be ready for work by 7a.m. and volunteer 7 - 8 hours each day. They are responsible for helping run the farm which includes assisting with a.m. and p.m. animal chores, keeping habitats clean, exercising dogs, socializing the many farm animals, weeding, watering, harvesting in the garden, assisting with school groups and public tours, and many other tasks. We need folks who have initiative, the ability to work independently and who have a passion for helping heal people, animals and the earth.
RequirementsThe ideal applicant is willing and able to perform service-learning activities 35-40 hours a week. Service-learning includes a wide variety of farm chores, such as gardening, feeding and herding a variety of farm animals, mucking out the barn, moving irrigation pipes, and other farm chores as needed. It's hard, physical volunteering and thus only suitable for people who are physically fit and able to volunteer outdoors in all sorts of weather conditions. Training will be provided as necessary.
Our farm location is remote, so owning an automobile is a necessity. There is no public transportation in our area. Rental cars are available for hire in a town 25 miles away.
Interns are willing to commit to at least 1 month, live on site and volunteer 35-40 hours a week, with 2 days off per week to explore all that Southern Oregon and Northern California has to offer.
All applicants must fill out an application form, provide character/work references, and agree to a credit and/or background check.
