Compassion & Choices
DescriptionCompassion & Choices is a nonprofit organization in the United States working to improve patients' rights and choices at the end of life. Its primary function is advocacy for and ensuring access to end-of-life options.
With approximately 40,000 supporters and 60 chapters, it is the largest organization of its kind in the United States.
We are currently focused on passing the NJ Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act. This would allow for terminally ill patients (with less than six months to life, as diagnosed by two or more doctors) to self-administer medication to end their lives in a peaceful and dignified way.
Our interns would be focused on generating support and momentum for the campaign, using mediums including social media, research, and database management.
ResponsibilitiesThe intern's Field Organizer would designate a different assignment each week, with an emphasis on growing a variety of skill sets and further developing one's resume. Depending on the current need for various assignments and the intern's pre-existing skill sets, there may be more of an emphasis on one field of work over another.
An applicant can expect 2-4 hours of work each week (on average) with a flexible schedule.
RequirementsMust be a current full-time university student with a passion for public service and the political process.
Preferred majors include (but are not limited to): Computer Science, Communications, Marketing, English and Political Science.
