DescriptionFounded in 1873, Cambridge Family & Children's Service (CFCS) mission is to identify and implement ways to strengthen family and individual self-sufficiency and promote conditions that provide all individuals with stable homes and positive community environments.
The Community Relations Intern (intern) under the direct supervision and direction of the Director of Advancement and is responsible for supporting the agency’s communications efforts including public relations and social media. In addition, the intern will play a significant role in the annual Circle of Friends Gala Auction in May, an annual fundraising event that supports CFCS programs. The intern will work to create a high degree of visibility and an effective public image for the agency and maintain positive relationships with community business partners and supporters.
The intern is responsible for supporting the agency’s relationships with corporate supporters of the gala, as well as local and regional media. The intern will set and maintain the highest level of confidentiality, ethical standards, trust and integrity while representing the agency in advancing the CFCS mission. The intern will work in close partnership with the other members of the Advancement Team.
To assist with a variety of initiatives to support the agency's Advancement (Community Relations/Fundraising) objectives. The Community Relations Intern’s primary focus for the spring is the annual Circle of Friends Gala* and assisting with an expanded communications program including social media and PR outreach.
The Community Relations Intern will be directly supervised by the Director of Advancement with support from other members of the Advancement Team which include the Development Associate, the Director of Community Relations, and the Development Assistant.
The intern will support the agency’s public relations and social media efforts by updating or maintaining contacts with local and regional media, writing press releases, supporting the documentation of program events and highlights, and helping CFCS have a more effective social media presence.
*Circle of Friends Gala Auction:
From January to May the Community Relations Intern will be responsible for providing support for the annual gala including:
• Outreach to area businesses for gala donations and sponsorships
• Continuous updating of CFCS social media and website content
• Review and updating of media list and calendar and preparation of timely press materials
• Researching new items to fit this year’s gala theme: The Art of Family
• Documentation and tracking of items received
In addition, the Community Relations Intern will assist the Director of Advancement and other members of the Advancement team with other special projects and tasks, as assigned.
Note: This is an unpaid, part-time internship and requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week through Friday, May 2.
