United Way of Central Maryland (U W C M) seeks to mobilize the community to improve people's lives. One of many projects managed by U W C M is the 2-1-1 Information and referral helpline which provides health and human service referrals to citizens of the Baltimore Metro area. This internship is a non-paid weekday, daytime business hours position in Baltimore City, Inner harbor. Student Intern Volunteers hours are flexible between 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday
This is a valuable learning experience with a dedicated supervisor to help guide you throughout your time with us. Interns and volunteers make a major contribution to United Way community action efforts.
Interns would have the opportunity to learn about community resources in the Central Maryland area, particularly the Baltimore Cash Campaign.


• Shadowing and assisting the staff Volunteer Coordinator during 2-1-1 MD Helpline Jan/Feb/March tax season.
Complete the tax appointment scheduling training successfully.
Answering calls during extremely busy season and assisting callers with appropriate appointments.
Enter all information correctly in specialized databases.
• Assisting with community resource updates, and quality survey follow-ups via phone
• Assisting with orientation and training of incoming volunteers


The successful candidate will possess a friendly, outgoing, positive and professional demeanor; will be able to work independently and flexibly, but will enjoy the collaborative opportunities that exist within a team environment.
Candidates schedule, while flexible, must be consistent and committed to completion of assignment.
• Candidate should be highly proficient in basic computer programs (Word, Outlook, Excel,) and be able to learn to work in various database systems with an attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills are essential as this position requires a high level of comfort in communicating with diverse populations by phone. Must be willing to ask questions and look for guidance when needed.
Complete training is provided.
Minimum 3 month commitment. (January/February/March) Monday - Friday, 9-5 times available. Flexible schedules.
Location: Downtown Inner Harbor Baltimore, Maryland


Required - Basic Computer Skills, Excellent customer service skills
