ICAST (International Center for Appropriate & Sustainable Technology) is a local nonprofit organization helping communities use their local resources for their benefit. Through our ResourceSmart initiative, we are bringing energy efficiency to the underserved in the Rocky Mountain Region. ResourceSmart brings an innovative and sustainable tenant education program to address the human element in energy consumption by helping building owners and tenants change inefficient energy use behaviors into sustainable, long lasting, energy efficient action. When such behaviors are combined with building upgrades, overall energy savings are maximized and comfort, health and safety increases. We are looking for students who are interested in engaging with these communities to educate them on energy efficiency and in turn, help those in the community connect with why the changes are taking place and what the benefit to them is.


This intern will work directly with ICAST Project Manager to provide the following support:
• Implementation of project plan with focus on behavioral studies for energy efficiency
• Conduct outreach and education for community residents
• Conduct surveys for behavioral change measures regarding energy efficiency
• Work directly with project leads from partnering organizations to coordinate project information for project implementation
• Coordinate resources for project implementation
• Uphold professional standards for the intern team, including communication, dress, and scheduling commitments
• General project support as needed


We are looking for students of all majors, interested in these areas: Sustainability, Community development, Education and training, Team coordination, Project coordination

• Be working toward Bachelors or Masters degree in related field (education, sociology, psychology, social work, anthropology, public administration, political science, sustainability, etc.)
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Can work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong computer skills (Word and Excel)
• Highly reliable

Desired Qualities:
• An understanding of the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors
• A desire to work with low-income families and nonprofits
• Passion for making a triple bottom line impact (community, economy, environment)
