The Lula Washington Dance Theatre is looking for an intern who wants to work in the behind the scenes business aspects of the arts. This is a non-profit, inner city based organization that was founded in 1980. The organization is looking for very special people who have strong administrative and office skills, who have the financial flexibility to work for very little. This is not a position for people seeking high paying jobs. This is for people who want to work in the creative world of dance. The Executive Director is the co-founder of the dance theatre. He is a person who works 24/7. He is looking for an intern who is a non-stop workaholic like him. He is looking for someone with great skills who can learn and grow with the organization.

Responsibilities

The Executive Office Assistant Intern will work directly with the Executive Director of the Lula Washington Dance Theatre on the daily running of the Executive Office. This office oversees fundraising, booking and touring, producing concerts, communications, board development, financial management, strategic planning, marketing, graphic design, photo and video documentation of activities and event planning. The intern will answer phones, file, keep the office clean, handle official documents and correspondence, do data inputting, and help the Executive Director stay abreast of his calendar and daily duties. This intern will be the clerical and administrative support person for the Executive Director. The Intern will help the Executive Director with whatever projects he is doing. This is an administrative support position. Hard workers only. Must be a self-starter. Must look for work. Will be responsible for keeping the office neat and orderly. Must be able to handle a large work load.

Requirements

-Must be an exceptionally strong writer. Must be able to compose, type and edit letters and other documents with immaculate languae and grammar.
-Must be a very organized, detail oriented. Should be an almost anal person, who can help improve and run the office for the very over-extended Executive Director.
-Must be friendly, personable, and willing to learn the Executive Director's unorthodox style.
-Must live in the Los Angeles area. Must have a car.
-Seeking someone who wants to work in non-profit arts / dance management.
-Very interested in people with strong sales backgrounds, especially in the area of booking tours and producing shows, and doing marketing to build audiences for concerts.
-This is an African-American organization located in the inner city on Crenshaw Boulevard. The candidate must be comfortable in this type environment.
-Seekiing someone who is not looking for a "job", but an opportunity to work in this field.
-Must be extremely computer literate. Must use Microsoft Office.
-Ideal candidates will like (or love) modern dance.
-Prefer people with experience in this field with college degrees in the general area
-Must be very smart and very fast mentally. Average won't cut it.
