New Brunswick, NJ
DescriptionCompassion & Choices is a nonprofit organization in the United States working to improve patients' rights and choices at the end of life. Its primary function is advocacy for and ensuring access to end-of-life options.
With approximately 40,000 supporters and 60 chapters, it is the largest organization of its kind in the United States.
We are currently focused on passing the NJ Death with Dignity Bill. This would allow for terminally ill patients (with less than six months to life, as diagnosed by two or more doctors) to self-administer medication to end their lives in a peaceful and dignified way.
Our interns would be focused almost exclusively on gaining support for the bill in a grass-roots organizing style.
ResponsibilitiesAlthough the bulk of the internship involves canvassing for support for the Death with Dignity Act, interns are required to complete an assignment each week designated by their Field Organizer to not only aid in gaining momentum for the movement but improve the intern's marketability and further develop their skill sets. Weekly assignments include social media training and administration, resume revision, volunteer recruitment and guerrilla marketing.
RequirementsMust be a current full-time university student with a passion for public service and the political process.
Preferred majors include (but are not limited to): political science, social work, public policy, business administration, marketing, communication, public relations, pre-med, and pharmacy.
