DescriptionWe provide free home renovation and repair to low-income seniors and the disabled, focused especially on helping them stay warm and safe with full accessibility. Our projects range in complexity, but often include the installation of safety bars in bathrooms, elevated toilet seats, exterior handrails, wheelchair ramps, etc.
Help to recruit & lead a small group of motivated and skilled volunteers who are on-call to complete smaller jobs, and to complete unfinished jobs.
ResponsibilitiesWith proper accountability, projects can be completed on weekends; volunteers can also be retirees and working during the week.
Small projects might include those listed above + installation of smoke detectors, CO detectors, fire extinguishers, doing safety assessments & removing hazards (including educating homeowners), simple plumbing solutions. For finishing jobs, tasks might include picking up remaining debris, painting trim that the team was unable to accomplish, following up regarding the removal of dumpsters or porta-potties, etc.
Your contribution will be appreciated. You will be working with a very congenial group and for a wonderful cause. This organization has been serve the East Bay for 22 years.
RequirementsMust be gentle and patient communicator with our clients (seniors and the disabled).
At least "handyperson" skills + enough knowledge to recognize ample skill level from others to qualify to assist.
Excellent project management skills. Works well in a group (doesn't need all the glory).
Reliable. Best to have own transportation (we can provide tools and materials).
Good experience for construction management student, etc.
