The mission of Hand in Hand Baltimore is To reduce juvenile recidivism among youth under 18 charged as adults, while providing youth with partnerships to create new opportunities for themselves and their families. Hand in Hand provides young men with mental health, case management, academic and mentoring services while they are detained and upon release. Hand in Hand is empowering youth and their families to impact their communities.


Hand in Hand is looking for interns to partner with our youth in three areas:

Academic: Assessing students' educational needs and working with them to achieve academic success (creating lessons to improve reading, math and writing levels),

Life Planning: Working with the students to plan out life goals and activities to create better lives for themselves and

Emotional: Leading groups or individual sessions with youth that address emotional concerns like grief, death, rape, etc.

Common daily activities include GED prep, Job application prep, resume building, and group and individual discussions.


Candidates must exhibit

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- The ability to work well in groups environments
- The patience and desire needed to work with young people.
- Creativity and an openness to the daily challenges of a fast-paced nonprofit
