Description

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a division of the American Cancer Society that focuses on breast cancer awareness and fundraising. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Boston walk takes place every October and hosts 40,000 participants at the Hatch Shell in Boston.

The right candidate for this internship will gain valuable experience learning about the planning and execution of fundraising events by working closely with the Planning and Logistics Specialist (PLS) on the Boston Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk (MSABC). You will learn how to develop a plan for coordinating event logistics, how to research event venues and observe the PLS as they negotiate contracts for event facilities. You will shadow staff as they research organizations to recruit volunteers, a critical element of event planning.You will also have the opportunity to observe the MSABC Business Unit and learn how they coordinate with sponsors, participants and donors to plan and execute this large-scale event. Periodic reviews will be conducted to ensure that the student is meeting the goals and objectives of the internship. Timing of the internship will be a fixed duration contingent on the student’s schedule and needs, and not to exceed 6 months.

Requirements

All Interns Must meet the following requirements:
• Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college;
• Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);
• Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester

o Note: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation.

• Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.

The following information must be submitted upon application:
• Resume
• Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements
• Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student
• Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.
