The Online Outreach Fellow has the opportunity to work alongside our Public Outreach & Communications Team under the supervision of the Online Outreach Specialist. This position will utilize social media and the power of the Internet to spread awareness and eradicate human trafficking with a leading non-profit organization.
The work of Polaris Project is grounded in a set of values and organizational beliefs that provide a common starting point for all of our activities. At Polaris, we look for talented individuals who are passionate about combating all forms of human trafficking and who will strive to embody and model these values within the Polaris community and in the anti-trafficking field. Please take a moment to make yourself familiar with these values and our mission statement before submitting your application. You can find a full description of our values here.
Write (tweets and blogs, emails and petitions, meeting notes or fundraising appeals).
Read (news articles for tweetability, other people’s blogposts for readability or the website for usability).
Analyze (track data, hits, shares or follower increases).
Design (infographics, Facebook quote-pics or issue one-pagers).
Multitask (priorities, tasks or projects).
The Digital Activist Fellow must be comfortable with technology and social media platforms, since they will be working with this software daily. While we can provide instruction in some of these systems, a strong candidate will exhibit a willingness to dive into tasks, take independent initiative to navigate these systems, and learn quickly. The platforms regularly used through our work include the following:
Salsa Advocacy & Fundraising Platform
Joomla Content Management System
Photoshop, Gimp and/or Inkspace
Hootsuite & Twitter
Google Analytics & AdWords
Final Cut, Premier and/or iMovie
The Digital Activist Fellow will tweet, post on Facebook, and draft emails for our 35K person mailing lists, helping Polaris Project increase the number of our supporters and activists involved in Polaris Project's work. The Fellow will help keep our website up-to-date, and help design email campaigns sent to thousands, generate support for our new state and Federal anti-trafficking laws, draft petitions to bring local issues to national focus (and vice versa), and write fundraising appeals that make our work possible. As a Fellow, they will be an integral part of the Public Outreach & Communications Team.
