Description

PRATICUM OPPORTUNITY for students who are acquiring their LPC, LMFT, LMSW and MSW
Worklife Institute (WI), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization had been operating in Houston since 1988. Among other programs, WI is dedicated to providing returning Texas military men and women free assistance with career placement and transition to civilian life. WI’s grant-funded services for veterans and their families include career transition counseling, personal and marriage counseling, mediation training and a host of other services and referrals to other veteran service providers in the community.
Practicum description:
. Case management assistance: Review client files, contact existing clients for follow-up meetings and status updates
. Sit in on staff case reviews
. Provide a variety of administrative tasks to support the WI staff
. Attend veteran outreach events, e.g. family days, job fairs, benefit fairs and the like, on behalf of WI

Personal:
. Veteran or family of veteran preferred, not required
. Current student pursuing license in professional counseling, marriage and family therapy or license/masters in social work

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:

. Strong written and oral communication skills, especially over the phone, with the ability to communicate with various constituencies and work effectively with a variety of staff at all levels
. Ability to listen, respect and incorporate new learning into job
. Committed to WI’s mission and culture

Hours:

Two (or more) days per week
Hours each day:
. 9:00 a.m. – noon and/or
. 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.
