RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) voted One of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth Magazine & "One of the Top 10 Best Charities in 2006" by Marie Claire Magazine has openings for interns to provide service to visitors on the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline at their Washington, DC office.

The National Sexual Assault Online Hotline is the first secure web-based hotline providing live and anonymous support through an interface as intuitive as instant messaging.

•Develop and enhance crisis intervention skill set
•Learn best practices in the new field of online advocacy and intervention services
•Provide a safe and secure place for victims of sexual assault and abuse
•Develop and enhance skills for professional development through reflective supervision and informal meetings with the Directors and Vice Presidents

Deadline for Spring Internship: December 1
Full-time: 35 hrs/week
Part-time: 15 hrs/week

Fall Internship Start Date: September 2nd -December 12th (Training Weekend Sept 13-14 & Online Debriefing Session Thursday September 18th from 7-9:30pm)


•Be on time for shifts scheduled using the Online Hotline website
•Complete 50 hours of Crisis Intervention Training
•Work collaboratively with hotline supervisors
•Remain supportive, non-judgmental and engaged with visitors
•Provide accurate support using crisis intervention best practices
•Attend one online in-service/month
•Attend additional trainings offered by RAINN (as necessary)
•Stay up-to-date on Online Hotline news and announcements, such as updated referral resources
•Work on research and administrative tasks relative to the Online Hotline
•Work at least one 3-hour evening shift on the Online Hotline per week

Please note: This is an unpaid internship. Interns must be available for at least 3 months.


•Applicable Majors: Counseling, Social Work, Women’s Studies, Mental Health, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, etc…
•Able to work some nights and/or weekends from home
•Exceptional communication skills both verbal & written
•Computer proficiency to include instant messaging is a must
