DescriptionEver wish you could get more involved in making women’s words matter in the media? Well, we’ve got a great way to do just that. We’re in the process of hiring WAM! INTERNS for Fall 2014. Could it be you or someone you know?
WAM! stands for Women, Action & the Media. We are an independent North American nonprofit dedicated to building a robust, effective, inclusive movement for gender justice in media. We envision gender equity in media access, representation, employment and ownership — and a world in which a just media is considered essential to a just society. We do this by running local chapters across the country, taking direct actions to change the media ecosystem, maintaining a listserv for discussions, and more.
WAM! is concerned with all kinds of media, including news, opinion-making, social networks, film, theater, television, music, video games, and more.
WAM! constantly seeks to remove barriers to entry. All individuals aligned with our mission & vision are welcome and encouraged to participate.
ResponsibilitiesHelp us create gender justice in media by joining the crack team at WAM!Central. Specifically, we’re looking for folks who want to do several or all of the following:
-Support our WAM!Chapters, and connect our Women, Action & the Media (WAM!) programs to new communities
-Blog about gender & media issues on our website
-Solicit new businesses and organizations to offer great benefits to our members
-Create video and other media that communicates our mission to key communities
-Help develop & promote our new WAM!CAN Community Action Network
-Gain crucial office skills
RequirementsGood candidates must be willing to commit to 10-15 hours per week, including time for supervision. You should be fearless in the face of detail. Computer/internet savvy (Mac especially) very helpful.
We are not able to offer a stipend but are happy to work with schools to help you earn college credit.
