DescriptionThe National Youth Program is responsible for the organization of youth-based events and initiatives, and assisting regional staff in supporting school and youth groups through programs and development materials. This internship is focused on working closely with the National Youth Program Coordinator to develop resources and materials for student and youth groups, to coordinate and participate in planning events aimed at youth activists, and to keep youth activists up to date on Amnesty International campaigns and actions through the use of social media.
Interns will work closely with staff to:
• Research key issues and initiatives of interest to or affecting youth
• Plan and facilitate youth-based events and actions across the country
• Support the development of student and youth groups
• Develop strategic communication tools targeted at reaching the youth community
RequirementsA background or strong interest in youth advocacy, issue-based research, or event and campaign planning is required. Interns should have experience with social media outlets, internet research, Excel, and Microsoft Word. Interns should have strong oral and written communication skills, creativity, and openness to using new forms of media, driving them to consider and propose alternative perspectives, both independently and as a member of a team. Additional criteria:
•Commitment to and interest in human rights and social justice
•Knowledge of AIUSA
•Motivated and able to work independently
•Well organized and able to multitask efficiently
•Great attitude and high level of professionalism
•Experience with activism, community organizing, and/or event planning preferred
•Graphic design skills are a plus
•Strong attention to detail
Commitment: Applicants are expected to commit at least 15 hours a week for a minimum of 14 weeks. Full-time internships and longer commitments are preferred. Candidates can apply for any of the three sessions offered: Spring (Jan – May), Summer (May – Sept), Fall (Sept – Dec).
