Located in beautiful North Lake Tahoe, at Alpine Meadows ski resort, Achieve Tahoe is a non-profit organization that leads the way in adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities. Our mission is to provide affordable inclusive physical and recreational activities that build health and confidence. Founded in 1967, we are one of the leading adaptive snowsports programs, led by a professional, dedicated and experienced staff. Currently we operate our snowsports programs at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Northstar Resorts.
We are currently accepting applications for our winter internship, and encourage anyone with a focus (academic or otherwise) in recreation therapy, recreation management, adaptive physical education, outdoor leadership, health sciences, or other related fields to apply. We are seeking committed, highly motivated, hardworking, flexible, self-starters to fulfill our internship positions. Our friendly and dedicated staff is eager to work with the next generation of adaptive recreation professionals. ResponsibilitiesPRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses and delivers snowsports instruction for individuals of all ages with various disabilities. Consistently follows organizational standards, practices, procedures. Attends required new volunteer orientation. Attends clinics both on-hill and indoors. Assists with the transportation, maintenance, and set-up of program equipment. Assists with special events. Develops and completes an intern project. Prepares for and participates in PSIA Level 1 in-house training program.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent. College degree in a related field desired.
Experience: Experience working/volunteering with individuals with disabilities. Experience working in a recreational setting preferred.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid certified desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Intermediate skill level in alpine skiing. Experience teaching and leading a subject or activity. Ability to follow directions and work independently. Ability to successfully manage multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of various computer software programs such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook and Excel. Must have the physical ability and strength to participate in daily activities at high altitude. Must be physically able to assist snowsports participants with adaptive equipment. Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in all conditions. CPR and First Aid certified desired.
