DescriptionJWP & Associates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under HLS which is aiming towards assisting individuals in bettering their lives. Our organization provides an array of services and resources for individuals, as well as encouragement through their transition process. Higher Learning Services is located in Macomb County but our services are extended to individuals and families from any county.
All clients will have access to a case manager who will guide him or her toward the completion of goals. The client will work with the case manager to develop a transitional living plan. This plan will identify the goals the client needs to accomplish in order to achieve self-sufficiency, the objective or purpose of completing the goal, and the means in which the goal will be achieved. Case managers will assist the client in identifying barriers that have kept the client from self-sufficiency in the past. With help from a case manager, clients will work to eliminate those barriers.
Our legal advocates will work with clients by phone, email, in face-to-face meetings, and in court. Provide information about restraining orders, family court, criminal court, immigration laws, and other legal procedures. Provide information and referrals about legal and other community resources. Assist clients in safety planning, identifying options, and problem-solving. Provide client-specific advocacy to meet identified client needs, such as contact with other service providers, law enforcement, and others. Assist clients in filling out and filing paperwork and attending injunction hearings. Accompany clients to other hearings as required. Keep supervisor informed of high-risk situations in work with clients. Adhere to organization policies and work rules, including confidentiality and code of ethics. Maintain professional boundaries with organization clients. All other duties in the legal aspect as assigned to increase clients self-sufficiently.
Our interns will have hands on experience and gain the proper knowledge in multiple fields.

- Assist in identifying potential business opportunities
- Monitor news and developments relating to, or impacting, key clients/prospects
- Prepare periodic reports on screening, tracking, and monitoring clients and prospects
Requirements- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively as a team member
- Ability to communicate at all levels with internal/external clients by phone, email and face to face
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, and Power Point)
- A positive attitude with good organizational, presentation and writing skills
- Pursuing a Bachelors Degree or equivalent education
