Community Governance and Development Council (CGDC) is a non-profit community development organization aimed at revitalizing Southwest Yonkers through urban planning and community leadership development.

CGDC is seeking a Community Planning intern to help conduct a community needs assessment and develop a local community plan.

CGDC will provide a small stipend for travel and food, and will work with your school for you to earn credit if possible.


CGDC is in the process of creating a comprehensive neighborhood development plan for the Highland Hill neighborhood of Southwest Yonkers that will include the participation and voice of local residents.

Southwest Yonkers, and the Highland Hill section in particular, is a community that is majority people of color and has historically been marginalized and under served.

Through this project, CGDC will conduct a community needs assessment that will serve as a tool to create a constituent database and organize community members to help bring the resulting community plan to fruition.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct Community/Business Outreach
Survey Neighborhood Residents
Perform Data Entry/Analysis
Create/Manage Database of CGDC Constituents and Service Providers


We are looking for Undergrad and Grad students with some of the following skills/background:

Communication (Verbal/Written) - Spanish a Plus
Urban Planning
Experience with Community Outreach/Organizing
Event Coordination
Leadership Qualities
Social Media Skills a Plus
Design Skills a Plus
