Adolescence is a time when an estimated 70% of youth become involved in romantic relationships. These early relationships are positive and healthy for most, but according to the Centers for Disease Control for 33% of youth they are abusive and violent. Some are even deadly.

From 2013-2016, GoPurple.org has responded to these crimes of dating abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence in adolescence through the delivery of our research-based, evidence-informed, 7-lesson, bloom365 outreach and awareness program in 10 Phoenix area partner schools.

Over 13,000 teens have so far completed the 7-dose curriculum in their health education class, increasing their knowledge about the warning signs of teen dating abuse, the definitions of sexual assault, the characteristics of a healthy relationship and how/where to get help.

As a result of this information, 1,301 teens self-identified as victims of dating abuse, 263 disclosed controlling their dating partner and/or inflicting violence harm, and 650 teen victims reached out for advocacy and supportive services.

THE GAPS WE AIM TO FILL WITH THIS INTERNSHIP:
