AFFEC is a nonprofit organization located in Eugene, Oregon. AFFEC’S mission is to find loving, permanent families for every waiting foster child.
The Family Preservation Program allows families, who are at risk for having their children taken into State services, the chance to develop through access to community resources and a parent mentor, while maintaining permanency for the children in their home. The volunteer positions within this program will take on different forms depending on what the needs of the program are and the skills that the volunteer possesses. Positions range from performing outreach to the community in order to connect with resources, possible parent mentors, resources for on-site classes, or publicity events for the program to creating weekly activity calendars aimed at connecting the client with their parent mentor and their community.
Under the supervision of the Family Preservation Program Director, the intern (depending on their position) will:
Attend a Family Preservation training to prepare for their position.
Review the important information about the clients in order to address needs
Perform an intensive search over the internet to locate useful resources, connections, events, etc.
Perform their work in a timely manner.
Maintain close communication with the Family Finding Director, including weekly updates.
Maintain agreement of confidentiality
Any major can qualify. This position is ideal for students majoring in non-profit administration, education, psychology, family & human services and communication.
