Description

REC is a grassroots environmental justice organization located in Worcester, Massachusetts--New England's second largest city. Founded in 1971, REC has been dedicated to building healthy, sustainable and just communities in Worcester and beyond for more than 40 years.

Our members, staff, board and volunteers work together to accomplish this mission by:
Developing and coordinating programs that bring community members together to address environmental justice issues in the places where we live, work, and play;
Organizing neighborhood residents–including youth–and training community leaders to tackle environmental justice issues in our neighborhoods;
Providing events and forums for environmental justice education, networking, visioning and problem-solving in Worcester and beyond;
Advocating at local, state, and national levels for public policies that foster environmental and social justice, ensure ecological sustainability and equitable access to clean air and water, open space, local, organic and nutritious food, clean energy, green jobs, and healthy homes, schools, workplaces and neighborhoods.

Responsibilities

Main South Farmers Market Intern -
The Regional Environmental Council’s Main South Farmers’ Market provides fresh healthy affordable produce to residents in the Main South neighborhood on Saturdays from 9:30am-1pm running mid -June- late- October located at the Fuller Family Park, 104 Murray Ave., behind the Central Branch YMCA. We are looking for an intern to work with us for 10 hours/week to help plan activities for the kid’s zone, organize theme days, help set up and take down, take photos for social media, and provide customer service at the manager's booth during the market season. The kid’s zone is an area at the market where kids can engage in activities including arts and crafts, face painting, and educational activities with a focus on nutrition/farming.


Mobile Farmers’ Market Intern
The Regional Environmental Council’s Farmers’ Market Program provides fresh healthy affordable produce to Worcester’s most food insecure neighborhoods. The mobile market operates three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and makes stops to 16 different locations throughout the city. We are looking for someone to assist with the operations of the market. We need help with the setup for each stop and selling produce during the stop. Responsibilities would also include collection of important information to help market the program. This includes administering surveys, taking pictures, and gathering stories about the customers at each market location. There is also an opportunity to work with local vendors sourcing produce, bakery items, meats, and cheeses. There may also be administrative duties including tracking and reporting financial information. We are looking for an intern who is interested in learning how to run and operate a small business, gain experience with tracking and report quantitative and qualitative data and is willing to work with us for 10-20 hours/week during the market season.
