DescriptionDelaware Peace Club, a grassroots not-for-profit handling a variety of social issues, is looking for a volunteer to join our Board of Directors as Secretary. As an officer of the organization, the Secretary commits to working in partnership with the Board and the staff to assist the organization in accomplishing its goals.
Our organization utilizes a self-sustainable business model to stimulate economic growth in disadvantaged communities by providing essential services, vocational training, and jobs for our targeted population. Our materials are used to publicize the unknown issues that our target demographic usually faces alone.
This person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, with extensive knowledge of English language grammatical skills. Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency are a bonus, and will be considered when choosing the best applicant for this position. Volunteer experience and a vested interest in the cause are desirable, but not mandatory.
ResponsibilitiesIn addition to meeting all of the responsibilities of a member of the Board,
1. Attend all Board meetings and notify the Executive Director if you must miss a meeting
2. Insure that all Board records are properly maintained and insure their accuracy and safety
a. For example, if you do not record the Board meeting minutes, you must review the minutes carefully for accuracy and to make sure that all matters of importance are properly recorded.
b. We offer templates for the meetings minutes, other forms related to the position, and new Member orientation.
3. You must sign all Board meeting minutes to signify review (preferably within one week of the meeting)
4. Assume the responsibilities of the Chair in the absence of the Board Chair and the Vice President
5. Provide notice of meetings of the Board and/or of a Committee when such notice is required
6. All meetings are held virtually via an extension in the Google Chrome browser

Applicants should have strong, multiform, concise writing and communication skills.
Volunteer experience and a vested interest in the cause are desirable, but not mandatory. This position requires 3-5 hours per month, for 12 months.
