DescriptionThe South End Children's Cafe is a new nonprofit opening in the South End of Albany, New York in 2015. The mission of the South End Children’s Cafe is to impact food insecurity and hunger, enhance academic success and influence the physical, developmental, social and emotional health of children living in the South End of Albany, New York by offering free, healthy dinner time meals along with academic enrichment, tutoring, mentoring and participation in the arts during non-school hours. Currently in the start up phase, we are working on fundraising, marketing, site selection, planning and community relations. This intern will work closely with the director on all phases of planning and programming, and will learn public relations, business start up, organization and community building skills.
ResponsibilitiesTasks include assisting with fundraisers, using social media, organizing volunteers, assisting with mailings, meeting with community members and leaders, planning program, site selection, set up and start up, recruiting volunteers and marketing the program to the community at large. In addition, the intern will write media releases, create campaigns and update the website. Closer to the opening of the South End Children's Cafe, the intern will assist with recruiting and signing up youth for the program, working with family members, planning menus, writing policies and procedures and recruiting, training and retaining volunteers.
RequirementsMust have experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience and interest in social marketing.
