DescriptionDo you believe that every Ohioan deserves the right to affordable health care? If so, you're in the right place. Get Covered America is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works to maximize the number of uninsured getting coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
The goal of Get Covered America is to identify uninsured individuals in the community and help connect them to health coverage. This internship will provide the training and materials you will need to be a successful community organizer - and will help you make Central Ohio a healthier, happier and more financially secure place for individuals and families.
Get Covered America's Columbus office is looking for a Certified Application Counselor to help enroll Ohioans into quality, affordable healthcare plans. This program requires a 10-hour online training to get started. As a Certified Application Counselor (CAC), you will be able to meet with uninsured individuals in the community, walk them through the application process, and help them choose a plan that best fits their health and financial needs. This position will teach valuable customer service skills, computer skills, reporting and organizational skills, and community development and outreach skills.
ResponsibilitiesDay-to-day tasks will include but are not limited to, holding appointment times for uninsured individuals (or consumers) to meet with you one-on-one to get help with the application process, making follow up calls to the uninsured to schedule appointments as necessary, participating in a monthly outreach and enrollment committee meeting where you'll have the chance to network with several non-profits, healthcare companies, and enrollment organizations, and reporting the status of each appointment you complete.
This internship is great for nursing, social work, and public health students looking to gain some real world knowledge of working directly with their community.
In addition, interns will regularly help with event and organization research for outreach. This internship will help you develop and exercise research, outreach, phone etiquette, scheduling, and organizational planning skills. Interns will help with event and organization outreach to uninsured Ohioans. This position will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale events such as the Columbus Pride Festival, Juneteenth, health fairs, job fairs, and other large events that require outreach activity.
