HIAS seeks a Resettlement Intern to assist with community outreach and establishing and maintaining contact with local government and other key stakeholders in Westchester County, New York in efforts to prepare for a Syrian resettlement project. This position is unpaid but may be pursued for academic credit. A semester or quarter commitment is required.
•Undergoes training with HIAS New York staff.
•Assists with development of outreach and resource materials for HIAS New York’s proposed refugee resettlement program in Westchester County, NY.
•Assists with community outreach and coordinating volunteers in Westchester County.
•Assists with outreach to local government and local government relations in Westchester County.
•Researches relevant services, providers, and programs to complement HIAS New York’s refugee resettlement services to help benefit current and future clients in Westchester County and the Greater New York Metropolitan Area.
RequirementsQualifications and Requirements:
•Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Theology, Public Policy or a related field.
•Previous experience in social services environment preferred.
•Fluency in Arabic strongly desired.
•Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
•Ability to work with diverse populations; cultural sensitivity and excellent cross-cultural skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
