Description

The mission of the American Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Key focal points of this internship would be volunteer recruitment, management and engagement. This internship is ideal for a current student or recent graduate seeking experience in human resource management, volunteer management, non-profit management or business administration.

The American Red Cross – Cascades Region offers Internship opportunities in the departments listed below. In addition to those listed, we are willing to work with you to customize or create a position that will meet your academic needs and/or allow you to explore a potential career.

Non-profit Management: work with leadership staff to provide management and operations support

Communications: manage social media sites, create marketing materials, edit and draft news releases and manage website requests

Human Resources/Volunteer Services: recruit new volunteers, increase volunteer participation and retention, develop partnerships with community

Event Planning: plan and execute Home Fire Preparedness events, coordinate logistics, arrange for presenters/trainings, recruit volunteers

Preparedness: prepare community members and businesses for disasters, conduct presentations, attend outreach events

Biomedical Services - market blood drives, secure donors

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

​Represent the Red Cross in a friendly, personable and professional manner
Attend relevant trainings and meetings
Communicate with staff, clients and the public
Plan,organize and carry out assignments from start to finish
Buildand maintain relationships with people from diverse backgrounds

Requirements

• Interest or experience in human resources, volunteer management, business administration, non-profit management or related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Competent in Microsoft Office
• Motivated team player
• Creative, organized and takes initiative
• Experience working with volunteers, a plus
• Professional office demeanor
• Ability to work independently and seek out guidance when needed
