DescriptionThe American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.
The Intern, Client Casework is an Unpaid Internship where candidates must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship. Selected interns may be based in New York, New York or Long Island.
• Undergraduate Junior student and above enrolled in social services or related field
• Comfortable with technology, data entry, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
• Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work with diverse populations
The Intern, Client Casework for Long Island and MNYN will be responsible for following up with families who were affected by a disaster within their part of the region, assess their immediate needs, and to connect them with services within their community. They will also be responsible for maintaining accurate case records to summarize and report services rendered and when large scale disasters occur in their part of the region, volunteer may need to work off site and in the field as needed. This role will also be responsible for assisting Regional Casework Manager in volunteer capacity building within their area and ensuring that resource directory is up to date for their part of region.
Candidates will be considered for the summer 2016 semester.
