The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.
The Intern, External Affairs is an Unpaid Internship where candidates must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship. The opportunity is based in New York, NY.

Responsibilities• The External Affairs intern will work with the External Affairs team, to tell the story of the American Red Cross to the public, clients, volunteers, and the American public. The Intern will have the opportunity to lead key projects and new campaigns to promote and engage new and lifelong supporters of the American Red Cross.
Candidates will be considered for the summer 2016 semester – Late May through August
• 20 hours/week
Requirements• Undergraduate junior, senior, or graduate student studying Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations or related discipline.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills incorporating influencing skills. Interest in developing and implementing organizational communications strategy.
• Interest in producing materials for and engaging diverse audiences including media and community. Excellent media skills, the ability to identify a newsworthy story and the ability to write effectively and quickly are also highly valued in this position.
• Proficiency with various social media platforms and the ability to produce content for those sites is a must.
