DescriptionSt. Anthony Shrine & Ministry Center, the “Church on Arch Street” is a center for Roman Catholic ministries in Boston, MA, staffed by the Franciscan friars of Holy Name Province. The central focus of the Shrine’s ministry has remained constant for 65 years: providing a convenient and prayerful setting for people desiring to praise and worship our God – currently through 12 weekend and seven weekday Masses, as well as an extensive schedule for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Shrine also has approximately 30 outreach and evangelical ministries.
This is a general, non-profit management intern position, to include rotations in Finance, Development (fundraising), Social Media, Communications/PR and Administration, as well as some direct, hands-on ministerial work with clients. It is a perfect opportunity for anyone discerning a vocation in ministry work, but being Catholic is not a requirement. All are welcome and St. Anthony Shrine serves a diverse population in both corporal and spiritual ministries.
Daily schedule is flexible, but some evening and weekend work may be required for special events.
ResponsibilitiesThe intern will be involved with various departments that support the work of the Franciscan Friars, including, but not limited to:
Communication/PR - Work with the Director of PR to write and edit copy for press releases; create story ideas for weekly bulletins (print and online) and Shrine blog; manage various channels of communication within the Shrine worshiping community.
Social Media - Work with the Director of IT and Web Content to execute on a strategic plan for distribution of social media posts. The Shrine currently uses Twitter (@ShrineBoston), Instagram (ShrineBoston) and Facebook (St. Anthony Shrine). Broaden the scope of usage and increase readership.
Development - Work with the Director of Development and team in a variety of fundraising and external relations efforts for the Shrine, including, but not limited to: annual campaign, individual gifts, major events, and donor communication.
Finance - Work with the Director of Finance on filing, invoice reconciliation, and other related tasks. Some familiarity with basic accounting principals and interest in the financial workings of a non-profit would be beneficial.
Administration - Work alongside the Managing Director in various aspects of non-profit management not otherwise outlined above, including Human Resources and staff support.
Outreach and ministry work - Work with the Director of Outreach and Pastoral Programs on a wide variety of ministries serving the needs of the less fortunate in our community, through programs such as the Franciscan Food Center, the Kids Program, Bread on the Common, etc. Also, work with the Director of the Seniors Program to manage the weekly Seniors event in the Director's absence.
Some work (i.e. social media posts) may be done remotely.
