DescriptionCity Year is a national non-profit organization through AmeriCorps that unites diverse young adults 17-24 years old for a year of full-time national service, leadership development, and civic engagement to address the nation’s high school dropout challenge. AmeriCorps Members serve full-time in high-need schools as tutors, mentors and role models to support students in attendance, behavior and course performance. City Year strives to keep students in school and on track to graduate high school.
The Learning & Development Intern will support the Learning & Development Manager in creating and implementing a 10-month long learning and development strategy to prepare and support 105 AmeriCorps Members to deliver high-quality and high-impact service to nine San Antonio schools while developing their leadership capacity. The Learning & Development Intern will help manage training logistics to ensure execution of AmeriCorps Member interventions with off-track students in the areas of attendance, socio-emotional learning and course performance in math and English/Language Arts.
ResponsibilitiesIdentify, screen, and secure appropriate training locations that are tailored to site learning needs for 120+ AmeriCorps Members and staff
Compile and analyze training session evaluations to identify areas for improvement, best practices
Assist Learning & Development Manager in setting up training spaces twice a month
Prepare documents and materials for training sessions twice a month. This includes making copies, organizing office supplies, proofreading documents, etc.
Research and compile internal and external resources to enhance AmeriCorps Member and staff development
RequirementsStrong written and oral communication skills
Good organizational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions
Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships with diverse peers and external partners
Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment and discretion
Proficient in Microsoft Office
