Mil Mujeres, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive immigration legal services to Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence, physical assault, sexual assault and human trafficking seeks inmediate legal interns/volunteers for the rest of the summer and fall in Washington, DC.

This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students, undergraduate students, graduate students, law students, or anyone interested in gaining legal experience, specifically, assisting with cases of domestic violence or other qualified crimes to obtain work permits and citizenship for our clients. The work we do is critical for our clients' livelihood, and this experience will be both challenging and rewarding for you.

The positions are unpaid, hence we encourage applicants to secure funded fellowships. Students may also receive credit in exchange for their services when permitted in accordance with school or law school policies.

Responsibilities

Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in using the law as a vehicle for social change. Candidates should also possess strong written and oral communications skills, and strong research abilities. Mil Mujeres is committed to providing interns/volunteers with substantial responsibility. Interns/volunteers will interview and counsel clients under attorney supervision, and draft written work products. Interns/volunteers will master substantive areas of immigration law as it applies to helping domestic and sexual assault survivors. We are seeking students/recent graduates who have availability during the week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 - 6. Specific hours and start/end dates are flexible.

Requirements

Spanish and English fluency is mandatory
