DescriptionThe Friends of Fort Point Channel is seeking an enthusiastic and organized individual to assist with communications, marketing, and social media. You will work in a dynamic and intimate environment that balances independent office-based projects with networking, promotional, civic, and other social events.
Our ideal intern is hard-working, creative, and able to come up with innovative ideas and methods to showcase the Fort Point neighborhood to the world.
The Friends of Fort Point Channel is a nonprofit organization committed to making Fort Point a great place to work, live, and play. The neighborhood itself is home to the Boston Children's Museum, Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, a thriving arts community, renowned restaurants and a sizable workforce and residential community.
Students/graduates who already hold F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) visas are welcome to apply.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We are currently looking for fall interns, but are open to interns that want to start sooner to learn from our current interns! We have observed in the past that interns are at their most productive when they are in office for approximately 20 hours per week. Please take that under consideration when applying.
We also write excellent letters of recommendation for our awesome interns!
Responsibilities• Develop and edit content for the website, newsletter and social media channels. This includes Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other various platforms, which may require attending events before or after normal office hours.
• Prepare the bi-weekly blog, including identifying good stories from the neighborhood and candidates for guest blogging and interviews.
• Assist with special and regular occurring events. This may include helping coordinate events such as the Friends' Annual Meeting, Pumpkin Pageant, Business Community Meetings, and the Holiday Stroll.
• Track and report on social media performance and all website metrics.
• Identify and research businesses and events in the neighborhood.
• Provide support to other team members as needed, including attending events, helping with administrative and organizational tasks, and distributing maps and guides
• Most of all, be flexible- there is always something new and exciting going on!
RequirementsA cover letter stating your intent and interest in working with the Friends of Fort Point Channel
Writing samples are recommended but not mandatory
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for writing content on blogs, social media and websites.
Passionate about civic engagement, placemaking and social media
Accuracy and attention to detail
A strong work ethic and personal initiative
Interest in learning more about working at a nonprofit
Familiarity with the Fort Point Channel and/or previous marketing experience a plus
