SBCC Thrive LA (formerly the South Bay Center for Counseling) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Wilmington, Los Angeles. SBCC Thrive LA has empowers communities in Los Angeles County to discover and develop tools for individual and collective well-being. Throughout our history and across the full range of innovative, grassroots programs that currently reach more than 10,000 families across L.A. County, we have made a core commitment to place the gifts, talents, and leadership capacities of individuals, families, and neighborhoods first. By predicating our work on the importance of creating and sustaining meaningful, trusting relationships with communities, we have formed a robust network of relationships that acts as the structure by which critical social services are connected to those in need. SBCC Thrive LA is funded primarily by Los Angeles County grants, but is working to diversify its funding by increasing private foundation, individual donor, and corporate support. To achieve this, SBCC Thrive LA is seeking a Development Intern. The Intern will work directly with the Director of Development to research and cultivate grant proposals and supporters, manage the organization’s donor databases, track and evaluate fundraising efforts, and complete other projects as necessary. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to develop skills in non-profit development work.


- Conducting prospect research on individual, foundation, and corporate donors
- Assisting Director of Development with scheduling, administrative tasks, etc.
- Assisting Director of Development with grant application writing and tracking
- Assisting Director of Development with research
- Assisting Director of Development with creation of marketing materials
- Supporting Director of Development with logistics associated with special events
- Tracking and evaluating all development efforts
- Working with the Director of Development to implement development strategies
- All other tasks and projects as necessary


- Be responsible, flexible, hard‐working, ethical, and committed to the mission of SBCC Thrive LA
- Possess a high level of organizational skills and be detail oriented
- Possess solid oral and written communication skills
- Be skilled at a variety of computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop is a PLUS
- Be able to operate standard office equipment (fax, photocopier, etc.)
- Be able to juggle multiple tasks
- Possess an interest in a non-profit career—particularly grant writing, development, and fundraising
- Consent to a background check and have a current driver’s license and clean driving record
- Minimum of 15 hours per week; minimum 3 month commitment, with 6 months desirable

This is an unpaid position. There is opportunity for school credit if allowed by the college/university of applicant. Position offers an excellent opportunity to work on substantive projects and can result in a great reference.

Preferred - Adobe Photoshop, Bilingual-English/Spanish, Adobe InDesign
