DescriptionWe are a successful and fast-growing NYC-based STEM education program that is currently accepting internship applications for a central non-profit management role in helping grow our non-profit sister organization, Student Union. We are looking for a self-starter who will take a leadership role in shaping our non-profit’s mission, organizational structure, advisory board, and management team. This is an opportunity for you to apply your non-profit management coursework and work experience toward the founding and growth of a ground-breaking program. Student Union will act in much the same capacity as MakerState, a for-profit that serves schools and families with STEM programming for students. Student Union will serve kids-in-need with the same quality programming but with the funding support of foundations, corporate supporters, and government grants. Your hands-on research, logistics, and leadership role will be pivotal in expanding our market reach to include a much more diverse and needs-drive client base through operations planning and marketing, and hands-on outreach such as client meetings, promotional events, and social media marketing and advertising. In the process you will learn how a successful non-profit runs from the inside out, and be part of transforming education for all children and schools.
MakerState empowers kids ages 5-18 with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math passion and skills through makerspace workshops in robot engineering, fashion/wearable electronics, eco-engineering, video game design, paper circuits, 3D prototyping and printing, comic book creation, moviemaking, and more. The program emphasises the Engineering Design Process and 21st Century Skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. MakerState hosts its makerspaces in after-school programs, community workshops, pop-up makerspaces, and summer camps.
ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities include:
Research components of non-profit creation and compliance
Help improve organizational structure
Research and communicate with new advisory board
Identify funding sources among foundations, corporate supporters, and government grants
RequirementsIdeally majoring/minoring in non-profit management, public policy/administration, education, social impact leadership, business, marketing
Ideally have social entrepreneur and/or positive social impact orientation
Experience using Google Docs/Spreadsheets
STEM and/or education focus/interest a plus (science, technology, engineering, math)
