DescriptionThe population this internship opportunity will serve is frequently described as vulnerable population, at-risk youth and adult (men and women) with less than high school education, limited work history or transferable skills, alcohol and/or drug abuse, have experienced various types of child hood trauma and often times experiences with domestic violence. The Youth & Art Development Program goals include: increase Community Development through Human Services, Leadership and Financial Literacy workshops. Increase Arts and Culture awareness; as a result decrease the rate of delinquent behavior. Increase the high school graduation rate in low income areas. Through the incorporation of wraparound services and art expression members will strengthen their life skills and awareness of resources creating a solution for each member's unique needs in a timely and responsive service.
The intern’s service will assist in the community outreach promoting the programs and services, recruitment of volunteers to support our mission, and the design and production of materials that celebrate our program outcomes and promote success with the individuals we serve. The most critical step in the empowerment process is to connect individuals with resources and supportive services as quickly as possible. When this connection to the appropriate resources are made, individuals have a greater rate of successful reintegration and a reduction in the rate of delinquent behaviors occurs. Additional impact of gaining access to supportive services, allows this population to prepare for and obtain their GED or education equivalent, seek assistance to prepare them for employment and connect them to the level of supportive housing necessary to start their journey of strengthen their lives. Although the journey is tough, individuals are partnered with mentors to take this journey with them. It makes all the difference in the world.
