DescriptionALSIGE Foundation is a disabled veteran owned 501c3 non-profit cancer patient assistance foundation. The foundation was started in 2013 by Simone Gully to honor the memory of her mother whom she lost to breast cancer in 2001. Simone was 19 years old at that time. Before her mother’s death, Simone became her mother’s primary caregiver. She worked two jobs while in the U.S. Navy to help with the financial strain from medical treatments and prescriptions and did everything she could to encourage her as she suffered with the disease. Although she sought assistance from cancer support organizations, she was not able to acquire any financial assistance, even as a U.S. Navy service member. It was an emotional uphill battle to not only watch her mother suffer through the years leading to her death, but to have to endure the experience all over again eight years later with her stepfather. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2009. Although he is a cancer survivor in remission, he is suffering with other health issues.
Through this very personal experience, Simone found that this debilitating disease has a deep impact on all parties involved mentally, physically and emotionally and families often experience severe financial distress. The ALSIGE Foundation was created to help alleviate some of the pressures, trials and tribulations endured by patients and their families. In the absence of formal funding, Simone has spent over $40,000 of her own money to assist several cancer patients and survivors in Atlanta, GA and East St. Louis, Il to pay basic living expenses, to provide financial support for medical bills and prescriptions, and to build various programs that serve to strengthen emotional well-being and physical health of those affected. Through a network of dedicated volunteers, ALSIGE Foundation proves that these programs are impactful on a population of patients suffering from more than 20 different types of cancer and lack these services in their areas. With the help of funding, The ALSIGE Foundation can further expand its reach to serve more cancer patients and survivors with various services and programs offered.
