Description

In partnership with communities, the BRA plans Boston's future while respecting its past. By guiding physical, social, and economic change in Boston's neighborhoods and its downtown the BRA seeks to shape a more prosperous, sustainable, and beautiful city for all.

Unique opportunity to help develop the first citywide comprehensive plan for Boston since 1964! Under the direction of Senior Planners, you will support the development of the General Plan 2030 by assisting to:

• Create an inventory and summary of relevant existing plans;
• Research precedent plans and planning processes;
• Prepare for public meetings;
• Prepare PowerPoint presentations and other presentation materials;
• Schedule, coordinate and set up public meetings;
• Maintain/update project web pages;
• Prepare meeting flyers;
• Prepare public meeting notes;
• Conduct field research;
• Research and write reports;
• Prepare maps and graphic materials;
• Identify and deploy technology for public engagement; and,
• Other assignments as determined by needs.

Responsibilities

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: Work requires Master’s degree level enrollment in city planning, urban affairs or real estate. Candidates for a Master’s degree in city planning are preferred. Strong writing skills required. Proficiency with PowerPoint, InDesign, SketchUp, and Adobe CS is desirable. Candidates with skills in photography, graphics, or one of the principal foreign languages spoken in Boston (Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Portuguese) is a benefit. Preference for candidates who are interested in learning about, and participating in, comprehensive planning, inter-agency coordination, and the community engagement component of planning initiatives.

Intern must be available to attend occasional evening public meetings.

ALL INTERNS MUST BE CURRENT GRADUATE STUDENTS
Candidates for a degree in city planning are preferred*.

*Students must supply a transcript (proof of current enrollment) prior to hire.
