DescriptionSave the Harbor/Save the Bay is a dynamic and successful non-profit, public interest Boston Harbor advocacy organization made up of thousands of citizens as well as civic, corporate, cultural and community leaders and scientists.
For 30 years Save the Harbor/Save the Bay has led the effort to restore and protect Boston Harbor, Massachusetts Bay, the waterfront, our region's public beaches and the Boston Harbor Islands and reconnect and share these extraordinary urban environmental assets with all Bostonians and the region's residents, especially underserved youth, teens and their families.
Save the Harbor has several outstanding internship opportunities for those seeking experience working in an environmental non-profit organization with a proven track record of success.
We typically offer internships for the fall season (September-December), the spring season (January-May), and the summer season (June-August), with some flexibility depending on the intern's availability. There are opportunities available for candidates interested in Environmental Policy; Communications, Social Media, Marketing, & Events; Fundraising and Development, Web Design & Content Management, and Administration.
Save the Harbor believes in teamwork. In addition to working in their area of primary interest, all interns help coordinate and staff meetings and events and provide support with mailings, phone calls and special projects.
Save the Harbor/Save the Bay does not typically provide stipends for internships, but will work closely with students to see that the internship meets academic credit requirements. You need not be a student to apply. This position is 20-30 hours a week with flexible start and end dates.

ResponsibilitiesSave the Harbor is currently looking for highly motivated interns interested in:
Reviewing and analyzing water quality data from Boston Harbor and the region's public beaches.
Organizing information on a number of projects that Save the Harbor/Save the Bay can present at local and regional meetings. Assisting with projects related to the Metropolitan Beaches Commission's work to improve the region's public beaches.
Researching current policy issues, preparing policy related mailings and emails.
Communications, Social Media, Marketing & Events:
Developing social media content
Drafting press releases and blog posts
Assisting in the planning and coordination of local community events
Forming new and maintaining existing media contacts
Development and Fundraising:
Identifying and researching new potential funders, updating and maintaining database and other records. Assisting in writing grant proposals and following up with thank you letters to funders.
Assisting in compiling information about Save the Harbor's programs and using this information to write reports, press releases, and components of grant proposals.
Printing event materials; assisting in mass mailings of solicitation letters, acknowledgments, and other materials; supporting the planning process for events; faxing and copying; assisting with acquisition, inventory, and restocking of office supplies.
Data entry; maintaining records in the database for events, appeals, foundation, individual and miscellaneous supporters to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.
Web Design & Content Development:
Developing new content and new platforms
Keeping our sites fresh and current
Testing new strategies
