Description

One Square Mile's mission is to build civic agency, foster community-wide collaboration, and raise the voice of the voiceless by developing the capacity of community actors to create change in their neighbourhoods. We do this by 1) supporting community entrepreneurs to conduct needs assessments, build awareness and trust in communities, mobilize people to act, and connect them to resources and 2) creating a data-driven community dashboard that can help everyone in a community track their progress towards achieving a collective goal. We support every day people to be agents of system change. By 2018, our aim is to support 100 collective action challenges that are rooted in well-researched development solutions in 10 countries in the Global South. We estimate that this would help substantively improve the lives of over 150,000 people.

We are seeking an incredible and spirited individual to serve on our founding team and help us lead our social media strategy as well as provide support on fundraising. This is a great opportunity to have an impact on the trajectory of One Square Mile by helping the organisation: 1) grow a constituency of supporters who deeply believe in the promise and creative potential of some of the world’s most impoverished communities, 2) raise awareness through social media about our unique approach, and 3) create meaningful programming that will help build community capacity and agency.

This person will also:
• Gain unique insight into One Square Mile’s approach to supporting communities in addition to being a part of a fun, engaging start-up opportunity
• Build critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Develop strong relationship-building, and communication skills

• Deeply understanding the landscape of potential supporters across the world, and making recommendations for how we engage with them at a global and regional level
