Description

The Caregiver Space is a non-profit organization providing peer support for family and professional caregivers. Since founding in 2012, The Caregiver Space has built a community of over 200,000 caregivers across its website and social media platforms.

Working closely with our director, you'll get hands-on experience with a highly engaged social media community and assist with editorial work for our online magazine.

One of the goals of this internship program is for successful interns to walk away with a brag-worthy project, marketable skills, and professional connections.

Students interested in writing or photography will have the opportunity to have their work published on our online magazine.

Get real experience carrying out social media campaigns, cultivating an online community, and working with authors. Help give voice to groups of people who are frequently left out of the healthcare conversation.

This is not a traditional office environment. The Caregiver Space is a distributed network of volunteers run by the director, who is based out of Toronto. We work remotely. We're a nonprofit organization registered in New York, NY.

The director will meet with students weekly (in person or virtually) to provide training and feedback. Work can be completed remotely, with check-ins over Google Hangouts and email. Projects are managed in Trello and files are stored and edited in Google Drive.

This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Responsibilities

Work directly with our director on projects in Instagram, Pinterest, Flipboard, Facebook (page, groups, live), and Twitter. We've built an online community of thousands organically. Our Facebook page has a high engagement rate and reach.

Learn the ropes for how to build and maintain successful organizational social media accounts with a budget of zero. Get hands on experience with community management and creating content for social media.

Learn how to identify and reach out to potential guest authors for our online magazine.

Refresh and revise existing content to give it new life on social media.

Get experience managing your time and working with a remote team.

The best candidate for this position will have:
• Familiarity with family caregiving is a plus but not necessary
• Excellent active listening skills
• Empathetic non-judgmental perspective
• Ability to work well with a wide range of populations
• Strong problem-solving skills
