DescriptionSpecial Olympics Miami-Dade County is a not-for-profit organization that provides year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for persons 8 years of age and older with intellectual disabilities. The resources and programs of SOMDC provide them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and their community.

Position: Volunteer Management Internship
Department: Volunteer Department
Reports To: Amanda Spies, Volunteer Manager
Work Location: Special Olympics Miami-Dade County Office
Commitment: Four to ten hours per week for a minimum of four months, or sixteen week school semester. Specific schedule to be agreed upon by Intern and Volunteer Manager.
Job Summary: Special Olympics has a large and comprehensive volunteer program that is central to the success of the organization. In this internship, you will work alongside the Volunteer Manager to facilitate the various components of the volunteer program while striving every day to improve the volunteer experience.

Responsibilities-Assist with preparing for and executing the volunteer component of special events, including:
o compiling detailed information regarding volunteer assignments;
o drafting pre-event communications to volunteers;
o creating volunteer registration related materials;
o assisting with the volunteer registration process at the events; and
o supervising volunteers at the event.
-Update and maintain volunteer database
-Collect and process volunteer registration forms
-Attend volunteer outreach events as possible
-Respond to volunteer opportunity inquiries
-Assist with training new volunteers
-Assist with development of volunteer handbook
-Other duties as assigned.
Requirements• Obtained or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree
• Fluent in English, written and verbal
• Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to effectively multi-task
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Commitment to meeting assigned deadlines
• Effective communication skills
• Available to attend and volunteer at weekend competitions
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs
