DescriptionThe volunteer recruitment assistant provides support to the Volunteer Services Office in executing volunteer recruitment plan for the Red Cross in Maine. The Maine Region of the Red Cross currently has over 1,000 volunteers statewide who provide direct support to those affected by disaster, support blood drives throughout the state, train the public in disaster preparedness, install free smoke alarms in homes that need them, provide services to active military, veterans, and their families, and teach lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid. The Red Cross in Maine is expanding opportunities to volunteer and the intern plays an important part in managing that growth.
This is an academic student learning position that helps to develop skills in volunteer/non-profit managment, human resources, project management, and communications, among others.
ResponsibilitiesWork closely with the Regional Director of Volunteer Services to prioritize the volunteer strategy into attainable recruitment goals.
Conduct internet research for possible sources of volunteers for recruitment
Follow up with leads by email, phone, mail, or in person, depending on the circustances.
Help to coordinate information sessions to prospective volunteers
RequirementsAbility to search the internet for propective sources of volunteers
Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the phone, as well as in writing
An appreciation for volunteer/non-profit work
