DFA is a grassroots powerhouse working to change our country and the Democratic Party from the bottom-up. We provide campaign training, organizing resources, and media exposure so our members have the power to support progressive issues and candidates up and down the ballot. Join us in delivering results for a progressive America!
Democracy for America (DFA) is looking for creative, motivated young people who want to get involved in progressive politics. At DFA, you will have the opportunity to work directly with staff, playing a substantive role in your department. The hands-on experience you gain at DFA will be invaluable wherever your education and career take you.
To apply: Please email a resume and cover letter detailing the department(s) you want to intern in, the session you would like to work (fall, winter term, spring, summer) and whether you are applying part-time or full-time to firstname.lastname@example.org
Full-Time interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend.
Electoral interns are crucial to our endorsement program. In addition to researching, vetting and prioritizing DFA's endorsement applicants, electoral interns will work to identify top districts for DFA involvement in municipal, state and federal elections. Electoral interns will have experience with online organizing and help craft and manage some of our online programs and help us take offline action. These interns help develop plans to elect progressive public officials and to put some of the biggest issues we face into an electoral context. Interns will be expected to help communicate information about candidates using content management systems such as ActionKit. Electoral interns should be politically-savvy, creative problem solvers, data-driven, avid readers, proficient writers and interested in public policy.
Political interns work directly with members of our Political Team to create and run high-impact issue advocacy campaigns, to engage our members both online and offline, to help our training program run effectively and to support our endorsed candidates during high-stakes elections. Political interns will have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of valuable skills, from email writing to volunteer training to event planning and recruitment. These internships are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the political world. Political interns need to be self-motivated, reliable and creative with solid writing skills. Most importantly, they must be passionate about progressive issues and willing to do the hard work necessary to make change happen.
Fundraising interns develop key skills through a fast-paced, multifaceted internship program. Interns are responsible for a number of intricate projects, many of which are self-driven and incredibly valuable to our team’s overall goals. From scouring our database for new prospective donors to tracking down the latest polling results for our next cultivation piece, each day brings another challenge that will help establish a solid foundation for fundraising in the political world.
Interns also have an opportunity to work alongside our strong team of fundraisers, partnering with our development associates as they pilot our principals through call time and complicated travel schedules -- both basic must-know programs for an upcoming political fundraiser.
Our team is high-energy, fast-paced, and ready to go day-in and day-out. We’re looking for detail-oriented, well organized individuals who share our love for funding the work that needs to be done.
Communications interns help with research, writing, editing, media tracking, pitching the media and a variety of other tasks that are necessary to keep DFA in the news and relevant in this 24/7 news cycle. Using a variety of outlets -- including Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Reddit, interns help spread the word about DFA to the world.
